چکیده

The high incidence of cardiac arrhythmias during oral surgery has received considerable attention in recent years (Kaufman, 1965, 1966; Ryder, 1971; Alexander, 1971; Thurlow, 1972; Rollason and Hall, 1973). Dodds and Twissell (1972) showed that the recently introduced intravenous anaesthetic Althesin protected the cat heart against arrhythmias induced by the combination of halothane and adrenaline. Warren (1972) considered that the drug had an anti-arrhythmic action on the heart in patients undergoing outpatient dental extractions. The purpose of this paper is to present evidence that induction of anaesthesia with Althesin has a protective effect against arrhythmias induced by the stimulation of oral surgery in man.

Comparison of althesin and thiopentone in anaesthesia for paediatric out-patient otology.

Althesin (0.055 ml/kg) as an anaesthetic induction agent was compared with thiopentone (4 mg/kg) in 87 children undergoing minor ear surgery as out-patients. The children were premedicated with pethidine and atropine and anaesthesia was maintained with nitrous oxide in oxygen and halothane. Both drugs were associated with similar reductions in heart rate and similar increases in respiratory rat...

Effects of tracheal intubation on intracranial pressure following induction of anaesthesia with thiopentone or althesin in patients undergoing neurosurgery.

Intracranial pressure (i.c.p.) and mean arterial pressure (m.a.p.) were studied in 20 patients during the induction of anaesthesia for craniotomy. Tubocurarine was administered as the muscle relaxant and either thiopentone or Althesin for the induction of anaesthesia. No significant differences were found in the i.c.p. changes with induction, intubation or pharyngeal packing, between the thiope...

Althesin as an induction agent for Caesarean section.

Thirty patients for elective lower segment Caesarean section were randomly divided into two groups. One group received 50 mulitre/kg of Althesin for induction of anaesthesia and the other, 100 mulitre/kg. The two maternal groups were similar. There was no significant difference in the clinical or biochemical status of the infants except that infants in the low dose group had a significantly hig...

Use of an emulsion of ICI 35868 (propofol) for the induction and maintenance of anaesthesia.

2,6-Diisopropyl phenol in a fat emulsion formulation (propofol) has been used to supplement 67% nitrous oxide in oxygen anaesthesia in 20 patients premedicated with morphine 0.15 mg kg-1 and atropine 0.6 mg, and undergoing body surface surgery. Following an induction dose of propofol 2.5 mg kg-1, the mean maintenance dose was 73.4 micrograms kg-1 min-1. When compared with 10 patients receiving ...

Alphadione (Althesin): a new induction agent.

The use of Althesin for induction of anaesthesia in 57 patients showed that it is a satisfactory induction agent. However, with the exception of rapid recovery with minimal after-effects, it has no major advantages over the commonly used barbiturates.
